Currency pair: base and quote
Currency pairA price quote between two different currencies, where one is quoted against the other.
Base currencyThe first currency listed in the pair. One unit of it is what is being priced.
Quote currencyThe second currency, the benchmark. It says how much is required to buy one unit of the base.
So a pair answers exactly one question: how much of the quote currency buys one unit of the base? Get the order wrong and every later number inverts.
