The definition, and what it is used for
ProductivityA measure of the effective use of resources, usually expressed as the ratio of output (goods and services) to input (labour, material, energy and other resources).
Productivity = Output / Input
Two uses the slide names: tracking one operating unit's performance over time, and judging the performance of an entire industry or country.
Because output can be defined several ways and there are several inputs, productivity can be measured from different perspectives, or even indirectly.
