Everybody's money in one basket
Twenty neighbours each have ₹5,000. None of them can buy a diversified portfolio with that. Together they have ₹1 lakh, and one of them knows what she is doing.
They put the money in one pot, she invests it, and each of them owns a slice of the pot in proportion to what they put in.
That is a mutual fund. Everything technical in this chapter, the NAV, the expense ratio, the load, is about answering one question fairly: what is my slice worth today?
